Answers
One question per page, answered in the first paragraph. These are reference pages, not sales pages, where a claim comes from somebody else, the page says who and links to it.
Where these answers come from
Anything stated as fact here comes from the company that runs the product, for ChatGPT advertising, that means OpenAI’s own policy pages, help articles and announcements, linked at the foot of each page. Dates and events can come from named press reports, and the page names the outlet and the date. Nothing comes from a vendor blog or a marketing video.
Where we could not find a published answer, the page says so and stops. That is more useful than a confident guess, and it is the reason these pages are shorter than the ones you will find elsewhere.
Questions answered here
- Can you pay ChatGPT to recommend your business?
No. OpenAI states that ads do not influence ChatGPT answers and that seeing an ad does not mean OpenAI recommends the advertiser. You can buy a labelled placement below the answer. The recommendation inside the answer is not for sale.
- How are ChatGPT Ads different from Google Ads?
The biggest difference is control. On Google you choose the words you appear for and can see what people searched; on ChatGPT you do neither. OpenAI accepts context hints describing relevant conversations, which are not exact-match keywords and do not guarantee delivery. Both run second-price auctions weighted by relevance.
- How do you advertise on ChatGPT?
You open an advertiser account at OpenAI’s Ads Manager, pass an identity check, add billing, then build a campaign with a budget, a bid, an ad and a landing page. Self-service was open in 63 countries when we checked on 4 October 2026. Three choices at sign-up are very hard to undo.
- How does ChatGPT Ads targeting work?
There is no keyword bidding. You write short descriptions of the conversations you want to appear in, called context hints, and OpenAI decides. You can also target by country, by device, and by uploading your own customer list.
- How much do ChatGPT Ads cost?
You set the budget. The smallest daily budget is 25 US dollars, 15 pounds or 15 euros depending on the currency your account bills in, and for click campaigns OpenAI suggests starting with a maximum bid of $3 to $5. There is no minimum term and no committed total.
- What are ChatGPT Ads and how do they work?
ChatGPT Ads are paid placements that appear below a ChatGPT answer, labelled as sponsored and kept separate from the answer itself. OpenAI matches them to the conversation, and advertisers pay per thousand views or per click.
- What are the ChatGPT Ads landing page requirements?
The page must be a real, reachable web address that does not block OpenAI’s readers, must comply with OpenAI’s ad policies end to end, and must match the ad that points at it. OpenAI also reads the page to help decide when to show your ad at all.
- What is OAI-AdsBot?
OAI-AdsBot is the automated reader OpenAI sends to a page submitted as a ChatGPT ad. It checks the page against OpenAI’s ad policies and helps decide when the ad is relevant. If your site turns it away, your ads stop, and nothing on your website says so.
- Which businesses can advertise on ChatGPT?
Two gates: where your business is registered, and what trade you are in. The country gate is now open in 63 countries. The trade gate is not, OpenAI limits advertising to a set of consumer categories, and treats legal, health and financial services differently inside and outside America.
